4 Ways to Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Happy Monday Loves! Have you ever compared yourself or your life to someone else's? Within the past couple weeks I caught myself doing that more and more often. It would start off with a very small comparison and next thing I knew that small thought  had birthed a full fledged competition within me. It sounds crazy but the more I talked to people about it, it seemed like that was something a lot of people struggle with.

You know when you get a new car and suddenly you start to see a whole bunch of those same cars on the road? You never realized it before but now that you have one you're more aware of it. I kind of felt like that with my blog, I never realized how many people have blogs until I started one of my own. I'm not going to lie, I started checking out some other blogs and it was very easy to get discouraged and start feeling bitter. I instantly started comparing mine to theirs and next thing I knew BOOM! it was a competition. My blog was created to empower and encourage and for a moment I started to lose sight of that.

About a week ago one of my good friends came over for dinner. We were laughing and having fun but it was on my heart to share with her what I had been struggling with. It was random and I didn't know why it was so heavy on my heart to tell her, but I did. She revealed to me that earlier in the day she had wanted to blog but didn't because of me. I would have never know that I was hindering her from doing something she loves. I encouraged her and reminded her that God has her on a journey and we are on the same team. She may be able to reach people that I could never reach and vice versa.

It's easy to allow the negative thoughts of comparison to take root in your heart. It can be through something as simple as a blog, or comparing yourself to what you see in magazines or social media. Today, I challenge you to take hold of those thoughts and stop comparing yourself to others!!! There is only one version of yourself, you have a calling and purpose and no one can stop that. Instead of comparing and competing with others start to empower and encourage. Don't lose sight of why you started. It's not a competition, what God has for you is ONLY for YOU! Remember, someone else's success is not your failure!!!

Here are 4 ways to help you stop comparing yourself to others:

1. Stop being afraid to be yourself - There is only one you; you are unique and beautiful.

2. Focus on YOUR purpose - God made you to be you and to pursue the purpose he has for you, not for someone else.

3. Celebrate others - Remember its not a competition. Practice turning your jealous thoughts into sincere compliments.

4. Accept the journey - We all have a different journey; learn to embrace your own.
